Dog training family

Husband and wife team, Josh Blanchette and Jessie Bohanan created The Educated Hound to give owners like you the chance to have a well educated dog using proven techniques that produce solid, fast results.

 Jessie Bohanan

Jessie has always had a knack for training dogs from a young age. As a young girl her parents gave her a book on how to teach tricks to dogs which she used to teach her blind rescue mutt, Lindsey, dozens of tricks! Lindsey was her constant companion that went everywhere Jessie went which sometimes included climbing the ladder to the tree house! Fast-forward to her early twenties when Jessie rescued Chumah the human-aggressive mastiff… Jessie sought professional help to socialize Chumah. After completing their lessons and group classes Jessie was hired on and quickly became the head trainer that was responsible for training the dogs, running group classes and conducting lessons as well as being part of management. After about 8 years and training over 2,000 dogs and puppies it was time for her to move on and start her own dog training business!

Josh Blanchette

Growing up, Josh was always searching for adventure. He joined the Air Force straight out of high school, and immediately used the enlistment money to buy an old, beat up Ford Ranger and go on a road trip to a tracking and wilderness skills school. From there he drove, climbed, camped, and spelunked all across the continent, climbing the rock towers of Utah, caring for about 30 huskies at a dog sledding & animal rescue school in Canada, dragging his friends up the mountains of New Hampshire, and discovering new caves in north Georgia. When Josh wasn’t adventuring, he worked hard to afford climbing gear and rescue certifications. His attention to detail and good work ethic earned him a place on the Dean’s List at school, awards at his civilian job, and awards in the military. In 2019, Josh was voted the Non Commissioned Officer of the year in his Wing. Eventually his adventurous spirit paid off when he met Jessie in a cave in Alabama. It was love at first sight, and he hasn’t looked back since. Josh currently serves in a management role in the Air Force during the week, and runs the behind-the-scenes operations at The Educated Hound also during the week. He continues to look for opportunities to adventure, and is always ready to drag friends, dogs, and now his wife, up mountains.

 Meet our Pack!

Instead of human kids we have furry and feathered friends of varying species! We have five dogs, Chumah- 11 yr Fila Mastiff mix (rescue), BEasy- 8 yr Cane Corso (client rehome), Poppy- 7 yr Yorkshire Terrier (rescue), Hitchens- 1 yr Basset Fauve De Bretagne (Russian Import) and Pumba -2 yr Rottweiler (long term foster). We also have two house cats, Gordon & Agnes, who own the house and a mix of farm animals that provide your dogs with quality distractions so they learn to listen to you no matter what’s running by!

Pumba, Hitchens, Chumah, Poppy & BEasy posing for a photo. Our pack helps teach your dog or puppy how to be calm and cool around other dogs!

Monti the pig, Debra & Deedee the goats keep the farm interesting while adding that next level of distraction that will make your dog the master of listening to you no matter what!

Chickens are almost irresistible for dogs which makes training around them so important for making your dog bulletproof with their listening skills! If your dog can follow your commands around a flock of chickens, listening to you at your home or at the park will be a snap!

Gordon & Agnes provide the animal distraction inside the house. It is important your puppy or dog learns cat etiquette 101 so they can live peacefully with your own cats or to prevent an accident with the neighborhood strays.

Certifications and Recommendations

“They trust and love Jessie, and so do we!”

Jessie is amazing and I can’t recommend her enough! Jessie cares for our furbabies regularly, including our special needs boy who is diabetic! My husband and I trust her implicitly and highly recommend her! Our furbabies are our kids and we are very serious about their care and their welfare. They trust and love Jessie, and so do we! Jessie is an expert with animals, and we are grateful for the level of care she gives to our babies.”
